Dental Fillings & Pulpotomy
What is Dental Filling?
A dental filling is done to repair a damaged or decayed tooth, restoring it back to its normal shape, size, appearance & function.
Why should baby teeth be filled or repaired?
Baby teeth that have decay should be repaired to prevent the decay from spreading. Decay can spread, and result in the premature loss of teeth. Baby teeth should be cared for as they serve the same important purposes as the permanent teeth. Baby teeth should be kept in place until they are replaced by permanent teeth. They reserve the space for the permanent teeth to grow into.
If baby teeth are lost too early, the adjoining teeth can drift into the spaces that are needed for the permanent teeth.
This can then cause crowding problems, because there is insufficient space for the permanent teeth.
What are the problems that decay poses for a baby tooth?
The hard enamel outer covering of a baby tooth is thin. Office Bleaching A baby tooth also has a large pulp chamber in the centre of the crown of the tooth. The pulp chamber houses the nerves and blood vessels.
When decay penetrates through the enamel, it can spread rapidly through the dentine and on toward the pulp chamber.
When the dentine is exposed, the tooth will become sensitive to sweet flavours and hot and cold drinks and foods.
What is PULPOTOMY?

In a ceerly decayed baby / milk tooth, The decay spreads from the outer layers of the tooth to the pulp chamber which houses the nerves & blood vessel. Thereby infecting it. Such teeth are often sensitive to hot & cold drinks & on chewing. In order to save this tooth we perform a procedure known as PULPOTOMY which involves partial removal of the infected pulp thereby deadening the tooth. By this procedure the tooth though is dead can be retained for a few years after which it falls naturally & new permanent tooth comes in its place as per the natural course.
